Control packs & topsides
Hot tub control packs and topsides
Control packs, boards, topside panels and overlays matched to the control system in your spa. A tech confirms the fault first, because these are the parts you least want to buy by mistake.
Before you order: rule out the simple stuff
Many "dead pack" calls turn out to be a tripped GFCI, a loose topside cable or a flow problem. Check these first:
- The spa has power: GFCI and breaker on, topside lit.
- Water is above the skimmer, the filter is clean (try running briefly without it, power off to remove it), and valves and jets are open.
- Any code on the topside is written down exactly.
- After a refill, the pumps are primed (no airlock).
Our guides hot tub not heating, weak jets and airlock after a refill walk through the safe checks.
Which part? Common symptoms
| What you're seeing | Parts often involved |
|---|---|
| Topside blank, but the pack has power | Topside panel or its cable, or the board |
| Water or fog inside the display | Topside panel |
| Cracked or peeling buttons | Topside overlay |
| Pump stuck on, memory or configuration errors | Board or control pack (Balboa says power down and call for service for a stuck pump) |
| Burn marks on the board | Board or pack, and find the cause first |
Control packs and topsides we source
Control packs (spa packs)
Complete control systems from Balboa, Gecko and others, matched to your spa's equipment, voltage and configuration.
Common sign: A tech has confirmed the control is at fault (stuck relays, memory or configuration errors, burnt board).
Circuit boards
Replacement main boards for many control systems, when the rest of the pack is sound.
Common sign: Dead pack with power present, or repeated errors a tech traces to the board.
Topside control panels
Topside panels matched to your control system's connector and features.
Common sign: Blank, flickering or unresponsive panel, or water inside the display.
Topside overlays
Replacement overlays (the printed membrane over the buttons) for many panels.
Common sign: Cracked, faded or peeling overlay, or buttons you can't read.
Wi-Fi & app modules
Wi-Fi and app modules for spas whose control supports them.
Common sign: Want app control, or the existing module won't connect.
Why the exact system matters
Topsides only work with compatible control systems, and packs are configured for your spa's pumps, blower, lights and heater. Send us the label on the control pack (brand, model and part number) and the back of the topside if you can reach it.
Where to find the model and part numbers
- The spa's model and serial label is usually inside the equipment bay, on the cabinet frame or the control pack, or on the skirt. Your owner's manual or receipt also lists the model.
- Pumps, heaters and control packs each have their own label with a part number, voltage and horsepower or wattage. Photograph those too.
- Turn the spa off at its GFCI or breaker before you open the equipment bay to look.
- Topside panels often have a part number on the back. If it's still mounted, a photo of the front is fine.

Common questions
Can I replace just the board instead of the whole pack?
Often, yes, if the enclosure, heater and wiring are in good shape. A tech can help you decide which makes more sense for your spa.
Will a different topside work with my spa?
Only if it's compatible with your control system. Send us the control pack label and a photo of your current topside and we'll match a compatible one.
Can I return a control pack or board?
Control packs and boards are electrical parts, and electrical parts and special orders can't be returned once ordered. A tech confirms the fault and the match with you before you pay.
